About Sarah

Growing up in Massachusetts, I came to yoga in the mid 00s looking for a way to relax and get out of my head. My practice has changed in many ways but I still carry movements and wisdom from those first few classes.

Yoga has supported me through many seasons of life and I consider myself a forever-student and constant explorer. Answers to questions like “how do I experience acceptance and joy in a changing body,” “where does my mind go when it’s asked to quiet itself,” and “how can I move with purpose and care,” feel ever-evolving. I can’t express enough gratitude for the gifts of peace, playfulness, and reflection I’ve received as a result of continuing to ask them in my practice.

Yoga and meditation can be explored casually or in a committed practice and I believe their benefits are available to anyone. People come to their mats with all sorts of goals: increasing mobility, engaging in self-care, exploring something sacred, having fun, and more. All of those reasons are valid and can open up so many pathways for exploration. Moving with curiosity and intention can create a stronger connection between body and mind. The practice of paying attention to our own experience can create a greater capacity for presence and contentment.

About Teaching
My goal is to provide you with an opportunity to approach your body and mind with curiosity, enjoyment, and a spirit of self-discovery. I support curiosity and enjoyment by creating safety and encouraging you to make decisions for yourself. When people are given the freedom to grow at their own pace, self-discovery follows naturally.

I provide instruction in a way that acknowledges that no one knows your body or your experience better than you do. Together we can find ways to experience lightness, strength, ease, and focus.

About Method
I enjoy playing between labels to develop practices that meet the moment. I primarily draw upon hatha, gentle vinyasa, yin, and restorative practices. Props and modifications are often used to support both movement and rest.

My practice has been informed by a great number of philosophies and schools including embodied cognition, somatic movement, the work of Suniti Dernovsek, Body-Mind Centering®, Total Yoga Nidra as conceived by  Uma Dinsmore Tuli, the writings of T. K. V. Desikachar, Judith Lasater’s restorative yoga work, the teachings of Swami Tadatmananda, the Tao Te Ching, the priciples of Health at Every Size®, and so many more.
